SARS has introduced eDNA as a security measure in order to minimise the risk of fraudulent transactions as well as to safeguard taxpayer information. This entails that your fingerprints will be captured and authenticated when visiting a SARS branch for certain services.

The city of Pietermaritzburg is the capital and second largest city in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, popularly called “Maritzburg” in English and isiZulu alike, and often informally abbreviated to “PMB”. The Pietermaritzburg branch relocated from the city centre to new office space just 3 kilometres away from the old location, and can be easily accessed from main roads such as Boshoff Street; Chief Albert Luthuli Street; and the N3. The drop-off by taxi is in Armitage Road, thereby making it effortless for taxpayers travelling by public transport to have access to the branch and convenience stores. The office space at this new location is constructed in such a way that taxpayers have an indoor waiting room and ample parking space. Staff at this branch offer services in Afrikaans and isiZulu, and the branch is usually busy between 09h00 and 15h00 during Tax Season (1 July – 31 October) and peak periods.
