PRETORIA, Tuesday 9 June 2020 – The Commissioner of SARS notes that the manner in which the IGI and the Minister of State Security handled the review application affirms his consistent view, and that of the Nugent Commission of Inquiry, that intelligence gathering, at the level carried out by SARS, is not wrong.
Commissioner Kieswetter has also consistently held the view that there is no evidence of an institutionalised “rogue unit” in SARS.
“I therefore welcome the court order, which brings this debate to an end. SARS will continue its effort to rebuild public trust and confidence and the integrity of the organisation in line with the recommendations of the Nugent Commission of Inquiry”.
