In June 2005 the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council adopted the SAFE Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade that would act as a deterrent to international terrorism, secure revenue collections and promote trade facilitation internationally.
In response to the need to improve trade facilitation, whilst securing international supply chains and improving compliance, this initiative is aligned to the SAFE Framework of Standards.
The Authorised Economic Operator Safety & Security (AEO-S) was introduced. A pilot programme was implemented in the year 2020 with specific industries (e.g. The Motor Industry and clothing and textiles). Benefits will be provided to all the relevant stakeholders in the value chain.
